I would like to give a special thanks to my friend and father-in-law “Slim Roberts”
for the gift of his talents as a songwriter and musician on  this project.
In the summer of 2004 Larry went home to San Antonio, Texas to record some songs that he had writtenor co-written over the
years that he called “Country Music”. The music that is so close to his heart with fiddles and steel guitar. The sessions were
recorded at Peter Carey’s Rhythm Room and included some of Larry’s oldest and dearest musician friends that he has worked
with over his long career. Although the recordings went great Larry was not able to sing the songs as well as he had hoped.
The reasons for this seemed to be allergies or the fact that Larry had been singing everything but country music over the past
few years and was too out of shape to sing those country ballads which are harder to do than some folks think. In March of 2005
Larry returned to Texas to try once more to singthe songs. The results were the same, but this time it could no longer be blamed
on rock-n-roll or allergies. It was obvious that anearly 40 year cigarette habit was the reason and Larry had to make the choice to
either smoke or sing. It was an easy choice between smoking and singing. He made the choice to stop smoking. In May 2005 he
threw away a nearly full pack of Marlboro Lights and has not smoked one cigarette since. He says he did it for love. His love of
singing. In the summer of 2009 Larry went into Crossland Studio in Nashville and with the help of his good friend, studio owner
and engineer Howard Hibbet finally sang these songs the way he wanted them to be sung. Larry has done several projects since
2005 but none as close to his heart as this one.
I grew up in a family that loved music. My dad played a little guitar and my mom played
guitar and piano. My mom’s brothers had bands and played around east Texas most of
my younger years. It was one of my mom’s sisters that taught me to play the guitar when
I was seven years old. I had already been singing at the family gatherings. Singing for
money started when my grandfather would give me quarters to sing at his Baptist church
at about two years old.I spent most of my time from age seven through high school
completely dedicated to all kinds of music. I loved to hear it and I loved to be able to play it.
When most of my friends were playing sports I was playing music. I can’t even imagine what
my life would have been like without music. When I was very young my mom took me to see
acts like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and we
even saw the Everly Brother’s first appearance on the Grand Ole’ Opry in Nashville,
Tennessee,  June of 1957 at the Ryman Auditorium. I am blessed to have music in my life
and continue to play such a big part even now. I have given much to music and music has
given me endless joy in return. Sometimes I have gotten so involved in the music business
that I lost sight of what it is that I love so much. I am thankful that I can still remember and
experience that love. This Cd was made with that early love of music as a top priority and I
am happy with the way it turned out. Since I made all of the decisions about this project I am
ready to take the credit or the blame, whichever is appropriate. I hope you enjoy it.  -Lp
