The band was Augie on guitar, vocals and squeezebox accordion, myself on vocals and bass guitar, legendary blues guitarist Jerry Waddel on vocals and guitar, Martin Stiedle on drums and Sir Doug Sahm on triple neck steel guitar (no peddles). Doug was raised on western swing music and the steel guitar was his first instrument. He played the fire out of it. Augie and Doug were definitely not strangers to polka music and could shuffle the dancers around with the best of them. The gig was a big success and everybody was happy including Augie's uncle who paid us each $5.00 and a large greasy bag of link sausage. That was some of the best sausage I have ever had.

Then in the year 2000, I was just south of San Antonio playing a show, which featured the
Buckboard Boogie Boys and the Augie Meyers Band. I was standing just outside the back door telling this story to a group of musicians when Augie walked up and overheard the conversation. He laughed real loud and said he was glad to hear me telling that story to those same musicians because every time he told the story they would always say, "We find it hard to believe that those guys would play for sausage". The truth is we would have played free, then and still will if Augie asks.
